More Japan

More Japan on the way…

Today http://www.japaninfo.at launched successfully. Not too much content present at the moment but it should be increasing soon. Probably there is already something interesting for you.

The corporation

The corporation, IMDB.orgThe Corporation [UK IMPORT]
Has anybody heard of this movie yet? Anybody seen it? It's from 2003 and we just found it in a non-mainstream video store and I do not know why I never heard of it before. No theory about the reason of this anti-propaganda now… let's switch over to the movie itself.

As you might guess The corporation is about corporations. It begins with simple introductions, history and later shows us case studies and impacts on our society, nature and any other aspect of our world as we know it. You will see many interviews with powerful people (some of them connected to big global corporations directly).

The stories are informative, stirring, enlightening. Even I was asking myself the question why our governments do not make laws which force companies to produce as sustainably as possible. It makes me wonder why we accept that companies base their decisions on what is cheaper, preserving the laws or breaking them. Please invest those 150 minutes and take a look at the prognosis.

One example topic: Did you hear about the water war of Cochabamba, Bolivia?

Kikujiro no natsu

Kikujiros [UK IMPORT]
Some of you may notice the focus on Japan lately. Gomenne for that. But I am really enjoying it at the moment. So many interesting things. From technology to culture over language to new friends. And here is the latest news out of my cinematic experience.

Just finished watching kikujiro no natsu and I am recommending it to everyone who is interested in Japan. So many different aspects. You see some landscape, some Japanese customs, really authentic Japanese people (especially Beat Takeshi aka Takeshi Kitano is wonderful) and much much more. Some scenes seem strange to gaijin like me but I know hardly any movies from outside Japan which are transporting such deep emotions in such an affecting way.

L'Auberge Espagnole

L\' auberge espagnole - Barcelona für ein Jahr
Just came back from watching the second L'Auberge Espagnole movie. This time it plays mainly in Paris and London although the title says St. Petersbourgh. Honestly I did not expect really much but I have to admit that I liked it more than the first one. Actually it was really nice to watch it. I had the impression this time it was not just about pure fun. The characters are more grown up and have more serious thoughts. Those 2.5 hours passed by like nothing. If you permit one advice: take your beloved with you, you will not regret it.
