Linux » GNU/Linux pages.
In the middle of September 2004 I was able to install my first healthy and stable GNU/Linux operating system. It was not a big deal due to the fact that I used KNOPPIX which is based on Debian GNU/Linux and provides many things like graphical interface, auto hardware detection etc. automatically. But it was perfect for starting with Linux and from the beginning of October 2004 I already was able to use it as a stable production environment. Since that I love my Linux and I want to contribute to the big community out there with this section containing hopefully helpful pages.
After that I switched to the Kanotix Distribution which is optimized for HD-installs and depends on Knoppix and so mainly on Debian. And then there was this week when I had kubuntu on one partition. And not to forget about this day I was playing DJ when installing Suse from CD.
There is hope for everyone. Still from time to time I kept booting into my old WinXP installation to use some pieces of software where I did not know any equivalent running on Linux. And in 2006 there was a fight within the Kanotix development team which resulted in some members starting another linux distribution based on Debian: Sidux. I am still using this distribution as my primary choice operating system for my work environments.
Conclusion
Finally I am also doing video and audio editing in Linux and there is not a single task which cant be solved in Linux too. Goodbye Windows.
It took me about half a year to learn the most important GNU/Linux basics. Since then I did not once destroy my operating system accidentally which happened before two or three times. Another year was necessary to get completely used to GNU/Linux and its massive amount of nifty tools and applications. At the end of that period I had a very stable operating system with my preference set of tools and utils. The point had come from which on I was a lot faster completing my usual tasks than under Windows. Nowadays I am operating on three GNU/Linux installations (two workstations and one notebook) and keep in touch with many other GNU/Linux systems (workstations of colleagues, two intranet servers, four dedicated web servers).

Your IP is 38.103.63.18.
Therefore I expect you to be located somewhere around this place (Washington, District of Columbia)
At least I am pretty sure that you are located in US at this very moment.*
