Successfully tested in Ubuntu 19.10

I have an onboard Intel sound card but my main monitor is connected to my Nvidia graphics card through HDMI and Ubuntu always decided to set the HDMI monitor as default sound device.

This helped me switch the default sound device permanently: https://askubuntu.com/a/502133

1. First check which sound cards / devices are available:

pacmd list-cards

2. Then set the default device at the end of /etc/pulse/default.pa
(in my case my preferred card was listed at index 1):

set-card-profile 1 output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo
set-default-sink 1
